The annual Day of Prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem (DPPJ) is an international prayer initiative, instituted with the endorsement of over 1,400 Christian leaders of different denominations and different races, from all over the world. They are fully committed to God’s eternal purposes for the land of Israel and for ALL of her people.
Organizers of the event strongly believe that the current terror, bloodshed, and loss of innocent lives in the Middle East warrant at least one day annually of unified prayers for peace from the global Church. This year, over 175 nations will participate on DPPJ Sunday with sustained and fervent intercession for Jerusalem and all her people.
While Eagles’ Wings initiatives are very involved with supporting social projects in Israel and assisting the Jewish people, we are a different organization from “On Wings of Eagles," which is a program of the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews to bring Jews to Israel.
Eagles’ Wings believes that while God has never broken His promises to the Jewish people, He also has intended to bless all nations through Abraham and his descendants (Genesis 12:3). Our outreaches have touched more than 30 nations, with significant emphasis on initiatives in
Israel, on outreach trips to the poor of
Honduras, and on bridges of connection with the church in
Germany and
England.
Through our outreaches and initiatives in the Middle East, in addition to working among the Jewish people we have sustained a significant burden for the Arab people. We have brought humanitarian aid and spiritual support to the communities of our Christian Arab brothers and sisters in cities like Nazareth, Bethlehem, and other historically Christian areas that have faced much persecution in recent years at the hand of radical Islam. Our vision is to see the love of God penetrate those places where darkness has increased, so that God’s Kingdom can come in power.
Israel is a nation with fallible leaders and an imperfect government, just like the United States and every other nation in the world today. While we do not condone or support everything that Israel does, we recognize that God has made promises to preserve His people Israel and His promises will prevail.
We also recognize that the Jewish people above all others have been persecuted and victimized throughout history, and today, only a generation after the Holocaust, there is a significant wave of anti-Semitism rising once again. Now, more than ever before, we as Christians must pledge our support for Israel and pray faithfully for the peace of Jerusalem (Psalm 122:6).
Eagles' Wings regularly visits the Christian Arab communities of Bethlehem, Nazareth, and other locations in the Middle East, taking Christians to these locations and offering support through financial, spiritual, and relational means. EW is also publicly vocal in praying for all the inhabitants of Israel and Jerusalem, not just the Jewish people, and in seeking avenues of reconciliation among groups that differ in their perspectives and opinions, such as Jew and Arab.
This Global Prayer Initiative is Co-Chaired by Dr. Jack Hayford (Founder and Chancellor of The King’s University, Los Angeles, CA; Director of The JWH School of Pastoral Nurture, and Pastor Emeritus of The Church On The Way); Dr. Robert Stearns (Founder and Director of Eagles’ Wings Ministries); and Dr. Paul Cedar (Chair/CEO Mission America Coalition) More information here.
The International Day of Prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem is held annually on the first Sunday of every October. This global grassroots prayer initiative coincides with the season of Yom Kippur, and for the first time in Church history, makes an effort at linking the Christian liturgical calendar with the Biblical, Jewish calendar.
Participants include over 90 million people, from all different cultures, denominations and generations, praying from cathedrals in cosmopolitan cities to tribal grass hut churches in Africa, as well as homes all over the world.
We have testimonies from hundreds of thousands of churches in over 175 nations - including “underground churches” from China and 7 predominantly Muslim countries - directly involved in praying for the Peace of Jerusalem.
- Primarily, praying for the peace of Jerusalem takes place in the local church fellowship as part of their worship service on the first Sunday of October. Participation in the DPPJ for a local fellowship can be as simple as including DPPJ information in their program or bulletin; and incorporating a sermon and prayer devoted to this issue; or it can be as involved and time consuming as an individual church desires it to be. The important point is that we enlisting all kinds of churches, from all different worship styles and traditions, from all over the globe, to join with Christians worldwide in praying for the peace of Jerusalem at whatever level of understanding they have about this strategic need.
- Some cities, states or nations also have regional gatherings of churches & believers -- in addition to the local church worship service -- to express their unity in prayer for the peace of Jerusalem and her people.
- We encourage DPPJ participation for all ages and provide resources appropriate for each stage of life. Instructional and inspirational resources are available for preschool through teens, and college level through adulthood ages. Just click on the corresponding links here to access.
- There is a special Jerusalem Celebration with worldwide church leaders and Israeli dignitaries that is broadcast on God TV to 200 nations that day.
- There is also a 24 hour Prayer Conference Call, hosted by Greater Calling (www.greatercalling.org), where people from all over the world, in every time zone, can call into a “virtual prayer room” via their phones and pray together for the many needs of this strategic region and its people groups.

God is not a respecter of persons; He loves everyone the same. He has a redemptive plan for the descendants of Isaac and the descendants of Ishmael. When we pray for the peace of Jerusalem, we pray for ALL of the people who dwell there. Our heart is to see God’s word fulfilled. We want to see the wall of separation between Jew and Arab broken (Eph 2:14), to see unity, love and appreciation for one another restored, and for God’s full Shalom and blessing to rest upon the land and its people.
We would encourage you to begin praying from your place of burden for Jerusalem and her people and to stay open to the prompting of the Holy Spirit and God’s Word to include other needs and other people groups.
- Genesis 12:3 –The Lord says in the covenant He makes with Abraham:
“I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” History clearly reveals that those nations and leaders who blessed Israel and the Jewish people were blessed in return by God, and those who cursed the Jewish people and His Holy Land, were themselves the object of God’s wrath.
- God inspired the writers of Scripture to make a timeless charge to all who follow Him to “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: may they prosper who love you.” (Psalm 122:6).
- Jerusalem – and the nation of Israel – is the only democracy (with freedom of religion and rights for all people and genders) in a sea of 22 Arab non-democratic nations. Israel and America are defending the same values and freedoms against the same common enemy….radical Islam.
- We owe the Jewish People an enormous debt of gratitude for their foundation of our Christian faith and their enormous contributions to the advancement of society through medical, agricultural and technological advancements.
- It is the Churches Responsibility to Stand with all people of the covenant for the restoration of Israel and God’s Purposes in that land. It is the Christian’s Responsibility to Fulfill God’s Prophetic Words to the Jews, in their generation.
- The history of the Church reveals much persecution against the Jewish people – things done in the name of Christ but not the character of Christ. We have the responsibility in our day to make right what our Christian ancestors did wrong, by actively praying for God’s blessing upon this land and her people.
1. In Genesis 12:3, the Lord says in the covenant He makes with Abraham: “I will bless
those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of
the earth shall be blessed.”
• This relates not only to a people (the Jews), but it also relates to a land (Israel).
• God will judge nations and deal with them for their decisions, just as He does
individuals. Therefore, as you bless Israel by praying for Jerusalem's peace, God
says He will bless you. Historically, every nation who blessed Israel was blessed and
prospered by God, and every nation that opposed Israel has been disciplined or
destroyed by God.
2. God inspired the writers of Scripture to make a timeless charge to all who follow Him:
"Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: may they prosper who love you." Psalm 122:6
• Again - God always builds reward into obedience to Him & His Word.
3. Our place in God’s present order inextricably links us with the Jews as a people and
thereby the land of Israel according to the Word. When we put our faith in the
Redeemer who came through the Jews, we enter into a line of those who have trusted
God according to His revealed grace and redemptive purpose.
• Scripture declares that, spiritually speaking, when you receive the Lord, you become
a Jew (Romans 2:28-29; Galatians3:26-29).
• If you are a believer, you cannot be consistent with the whole of Scripture and take a position that is passive toward the Jews and Israel.
4. The same spirit driving these animosities is equally opposed to Christians as to Jews
and in time will eventually bring persecution to both. The forces opposed to Israel are
not simply those of people who don’t like Jews. We are caught in the stream of
spiritual forces greater than humanity, forces that cannot be overthrown politically
or by the power of persuasion. These forces can only be broken by intercessory prayer
where principalities and powers are cast down.
• Just as Scripture states there are two witnesses that will be put to death in Jerusalem
at the very end of time (Revelation 11); there have been two witnesses that have stood
for God throughout history – the Jews and the Christians.
• The hostilities and animosities are just as leveled at believers as they are at Israel,
because there is a spirit in the world that is against all that is called God and everything
about Him.
5. The history of the Church is a history of anti-Semitism and violence against the Jews.
As part of the present day Church, we must rectify this by taking responsibility for the
wrong doing of our past generations, by not only repenting of those sins in prayer, but
also, by intercession for Jewish people and actively reflecting to them the true love &
character of Jesus Christ.
• The Bible shows that righteous men like Daniel, Moses, and others “stood in the gap”
and repented for the sins of the nation and the people that they represented. Even
Jesus “numbered himself with the transgressors.”
• Part of our responsibility as
disciples of Jesus Christ is to clearly reflect Him to the world. We must now clearly
reflect Him to Israel and the Jewish people, to whom Christian persecution was
done in the name of Christ, but NOT the Character of Christ.
We have developed The Watchmen on the Wall Training Program to equip believers to better understand and pray for the historical, Biblical, religious, and political issues surrounding God’s Holy Land and all who live there. The combination of our Watchmen Curriculum and our Watchmen Pilgrimage equip the believer not only with deeper spiritual and intellectual information, but also experiential learning.
We heartily recommend the Watchmen Manual, the Watchmen Audio CD Training Sets (with PowerPoints), plus the supplemental documentaries available on our
DPPJ Book Store.
